Restrict unbridled import of edible oils: SOPA Chairman Urges Minister to include Soybean processing under PLI Scheme
Dr. Davish Jain, Chairman, Soybean Processors Association of India, has called for restricting the unbridled imports of edible oils and impetus to the domestic oil seeds production. Dr Jain made this submission before the Union Minister of State for Finance, Government of India, Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, during his visit to SOPA headquarters here on Saturday.
While briefing the Union Minister about the state of affairs of the Indian Edible Oils sector in general and the Soybean sector in particular, the SOPA chairman requested the Minister to consider PLI scheme inclusion for the Soybean processing sector. He also apprised him of the present state of India’s Food & Agri-business and apprised him of the opportunities and challenges facing the Oilseeds sector.
Taking due cognizance of the facts and demands made by SOPA,
The Minister assured the SOPA Chairman that he would take up the matter with the Minister concerned and also with the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, if required to mitigate the crisis being faced by the domestic Edible sector. Earlier, Dr Jain accorded a floral welcome to the Union Minister upon his arrival at the SOPA headquarters and made a thorough presentation before him about the oil seeds sector.
